If you've gone over the 36 month validity period, I believe you would have to re-take all atpl exams again as there will no longer be the option for IR theory only. That's if the new rules come in.
There will no doubt be an interim period during the change over.

Presently, sit the 7 IR theory exams asap to have another 3 years validity period. If you don't intend to take the IR practical course in near future, why worry and go on about it? Just do the CPL course because why do all atpl exams twice when once will do and the CPL exams will do for now. ??
