Seems it's best to download it not from the windows or microsoft update site, but to use the downloadable installer from here

I have had problems logging in, or rather staying logged in, on some sites, PPrune included. Plan to clear out all cookies soon and start again from scratch.
Otherwise, it's all working well, and more likeable than IE6, my version of which kept crashing, anyway.
