Akrotiri
Back in the early 70s, I can recall a neighbour on 84Sqn mentioning that his brand-new duty-free SAAB 99 would often 'cough' whenever he drove past the aerial farm approaching Akrotiri. He was convinced that it was some form of radiation upsetting the car's ECU. The majority of cars back then were still fitted with mechanical 'points' to trigger the ignition, so were not affected, but ECUs were just beginning to appear on some vehicles.
