I was talking to someone a couple of days ago about the fact that everyone knows Neil Armstrong's name as the first man to set foot on the Moon but many have difficulty in remembering the names of the second and subsequent astronauts who followed?
Perhaps, because he is such a special aviator, Neil Armstrong is the one man who can truly represent ALL those intrepid aviators who have gone into orbit and made that perilous journey to the Moon. In so doing, when we remember his name we also remember all the others too and indeed the hundreds and thousands to come.
I cannot think of a finer gentleman to receive the Guild's most prestigious award.
