As far as I know you guys fly for/as LH-cargo anyway more or less regularly (Polar was/is(?), too)
No resctrictions on outsourcing the cargo ops in our contract, thatīs the problem.

Having LCAG planes and pilots do it is much cheaper for DLH, BUT: They have a rather new "scheduled" product (mostly in pax bellies), with which they make quite a bit of money.
So they chartered the ATLAS plane as the scheduled pax flight didnīt operate.
Guess they paid the premium so as not to p*ss off the customers.
