Far from stupid! Some operators actually have some check-lists that are read and responded to by PNF. Of course, 'airmanship' would suggest that the other pilot will 'cast an eye' at what is being recited, but pressurisation checks after take-off (ref Helios?) was
one of those 'unchecked' checks in
some airlines - although I suspect there are a lot more 'checks' being done now.
