It's not memorising answers over lateral thinking! It's delivering EVIDENCE of your attributes and suitability for the job by RECOUNTING your experiences. What lateral thinking do you need to do in an interview?
I think you misunderstand what an interview is about. Lateral thinking comes in something like a group exercise where you are faced with a problem(s) that you need to work as a team to solve.....
If you cannot express yourself by recounting your experiences to them then I would suggest you are lacking in communication skills, incidently, another attribute which they will be looking for in suitable applicants for pilot employement.
