Dear IMDO (shortened version)
Here are the answers to your questions:
"Is Impulse a good company to work for? ie do most colleagues get on?"
Yes - Impulse is a good company to work for - so long as you enjoy hard work and don't mind giving 100% - if you don't, then they have issues (but which airline or company doesn't?!). Yes - most, if not all, the crew get along famously. True, there are the odd exceptions, but the crew base is generally small - so you pretty much always get to fly with the friends you make on the line.
"Is it contract work now?"
No. You're hired as a permanent full time flight attendant. Impulse is contracted for the next 10 years as a QantasLink regional airline. Expansion is underway with Sydney-Townsville direct beginning in October.
What could a purser expect pay wise?
A purser could expect approx $42K per year, not including meal allowances (and super too - not too sure about that one!). Extra too if you're a training or check & training f/a.
How many holidays per year?
6 weeks holiday - 42 days leave to be exact.
Any Brisbane bases coming up?
The only base in QLD at the moment is OOL. All current BNE crew get bussed to OOL airport to commence duty. I believe OOL recruitment is next on the agena (the next training school is based up there, starts next week).
How many average sectors per shift?
4 sector days are the norm, approx 8.5-9.5 hrs on duty - majority without break (although you are paid time and a half and double time after 5 hours if you don't get one!)...some long ones in there too (SYD-HTI return and then SYD-HBA)...
What other routes apart from BNE, MEL, OOL, HBA?
They don't fly to BNE...they fly from SYD to OOL, HBA, HTI, MCY and TSV (early October). From MEL to OOL, HBA and MCY.
Are rosters flexible? ie can crew swap with each other & can you request specific days off?
You can do this. At the moment you cannot bid for trips like you can at QF and AN - but down the track who knows?
Are you paid extension allowances if asked to extend duty?
You are paid relevant overtime pertaining to that shift. Not allowed to work more than 12 hours in a shift maximum (time and a half, etc applies after a certain time).
Do you have ID travel? If so what?
Crew have ID90 travel on all Impulse operated services (eg. SYD-OOL, etc). They do not have ID90 travel on QF mainline services, nor reciprocal agreements with international carriers. The Union is working on this one.
Hope this helps you and anyone else with Impulse questions!
