Angry Gliding airfields - a reminder

Sunday afternoon at Lyveden (home of Welland Gliding Club) saw a small single engined plane (details omitted here, but they'll know who they are) land straight in, downwind, with no circuit, no radio call. Indeed, no radio fitted. It was incredibly fortunate that the only conflicting traffic was a glider on finals from the appropriate into wind direction. Had a winch launch been in progress - and from this guy's low approach he had no way of knowing - then I'm convinced that both glider and visitor would have suffered a fate involving lots of paperwork.

So a gentle reminder, then, that although small airstrips such as ours may lie idle 5 days a week, they may well be very active at weekends (on a busy day we may manage as many as 50 or 60 take-offs).

Please heed !
