A figure and voice from the television and airshows of my childhood, whom I had the priviledge to meet over dinner in Oxford before a wonderful talk to the gliding club there a couple of decades ago. Raymond Baxter struck me as a remarkably generous and thoughtful gentleman, who preserved his humanity despite his celebrity.
Unremarked in the obituaries was his association with the Air League, extending the aviation that gave him such obvious joy to younger pilots through flying scholarships.
