the snow might cause a rollover if there was a crust on the top and the takeoff was hurried/careless. i have departed (with an astar & 500D) from situations like that many times.
generally, before you lower the collective and shut down you will have tested the surface and done a good seating check. if there is any doubt, best not to shut down and relocated to somewhere that is acceptable. (in the pic, it seems to me that you can see the flight step and not the actual skid tubes, i could be wrong).
you cannot tell from the picture if that machine is equiped with bear paws or not, but it looks like they new that the surface was solid and flat so the risk of having the tail sink into the snow was taken care of. also, it is obviously large enough (some sort of playing feild perhaps?) and if it were me i'd favour an edge so i could keep the fence/boards in sight during the snowball in order to keep references.
i'd have no problem landing there.
