The biggest causes of crashes on Windows pc's are: Drivers, drivers & drivers. After that it's psu's then drivers, then drivers.
I would also suspect Service pack 2 - that update shuts out a whole load of stuff your machine could do before. However, failing a driver update, I would look to do some reading around SP2 - it's a major change to your system.
