Could be JMR, a high profile client requesting something of the pilot and the pilot pressured by his contract to acheive his clients wishes. Still not an excuse but extremely plausible. I remember a Air Liner once having a "requirement" for pay. The pilots HAD to make it to the destination before they were payed for the leg. Discouraged diversions, and called into question safety at times
