Something's surely rotten in the state of .......???

Interesting NTSB report on this. Curious - ATC has him heading 220 deg with advisory that the ?? airport was at 12 o'clock - which would seem to position them inline for approach to runway 22 at ACY not AIY. This does not make sense if you look at the charts and factor the aircraft's approach profile.

It appears to me like the fellow thought he was putting down at ACY, saw AIY and things went downhill from there. Perhaps cleared to Bader was taken as a (non-existant in NJ) fix and not the airport. While our man in the busy end clearly was having a bad day - it could have been a much better day had ACY Approach at least noticed they were directing a TJ to a non-TJ approved facility. The good news was that there were no injuries other than those sustained by a heretofore perfectly fine Citation CJ1.

I loved Bader for being a quick and easy sedan ride to and from Atlantic City. There has been a push to close AIY for a while now. The airport's pattern imposes a limit on how high they can the build casinos. Sadly, Bader is set to close sometime this month and AC developers and casino owners are ready to make billions from the reclaimed property and code changes.

Now I am thinking about that boardwalk pizza.............as well as the obvious lessons to be learned here.
