'Atlas' is Atlas Air Crew Services. Base is STN but in practice most flights originate from AMS or LGG (Liege). A/C are B747-200 and -400 freighters. 200 routes are mainly eastbound (middle/far east) and Africa. 400 work is mainly on behalf of BA to the US.
'Global' is Global Supply Systems - an Atlas shell, 51% owned by a Brit, 49% by Atlas. This will get them around the foreign ownership problems and allow them to have G-registered a/c. Global will take over the BA wet-lease contracts once the company is up-and-running.
FAA ATPL is required for Atlas as a/c are N-registered. Atlas provides the FAA course - 2/3 months in the US. Pay is poor - £32K for F/Os for 20 days per month, £200 per day in excess of 20 days. £2.00 per hour flight pay (£1.50 while training). If not type-rated: bond of £10K over 3 years, no salary whilst training but £3K bonus on completion.
Mainly ACMI work (charter). Little roster stability. Lots of time away but not much flying (40-60 hours per month).
