That's basically correct PAF. And it sucks. Defence Super is a joke in almost every respect. None of the super is funded. Everything written on your Super statement with the exception of your own contributions is 'notional'!

As someone else hinted at earlier, the phrase "pilot shortage" is quite mis-leading. "
Experienced pilot shortage" is more accurate. I personally view the European/Asian trend of recruiting pilots straight out flying schools into the RHS of an RPT jet with some trepidation.
