Thank you for raising this issue again Roger. It's a pet hate of mine too.
It can be a problem with these coloquial flight number callsigns too.
"Qantas four thirty nine descend to niner thousand."
"Niner thousand, Qantas four thirty five"
How many of us would say "Four thirty nineR"?
Not enough I would suggest.
