Hi mate, you've got a few options open to you.

The whole point of getting civvy experience is for your log book when you apply for your B2 licence. They say, on average, you'll need about one years experience. This depends on what you have in your book at the time of application, if it's a bit sparse, you might have to do a bit more.

If you're working weekends, holidays etc., you should have amassed enough experience over the time it takes to complete your modules. I would guess it'll take you a couple of years. The downside to this route might be that you have to work for free. You could be lucky and find an employer who is flexible and willing to pay you.

Another option would be to finish your modules while you are still in, THEN get a full-time civvy job. You would have to work for a year as a mech before getting your B2. Employers do appreciate military training and many of them will give you a job even with no civvy experience, so long as you're not a muppet!!

I was in a similar situation (RAF and B1) and I managed to get a fairly well paid mech job. PM me if you need any more info. I'm sure there are many B2 lads and lasses who could give you some advice.

As for tools, pretty much what you use now, cup, spoon, pint of milk......

I had to get a dig in somewhere!!!!
