The market only sets the ballpark for negotiations. Look what Delta and United achieved in their last contract. ( Don't blame the pilots for UAL's current problems. Goodwin is a moron).
..."the interst of airline staff and management are co-incident." Where have you been? Do you remember Lorenzo, Icahn or Wolf. Ask anyone unfortunate enough to have worked for an airline that these men rampaged and see if his interest was "co-incidental"!
As for these dinosaurs you mention. If you are an airline pilot, and I hope you are so I'm not wasting my time explaining this to you, they made the job what it is today. You should thank them.
