Snigs[/B], it is actually a minimum of 44 sectors with a covering F/O for as long as the training captain deems necessary. Some of the not too recent new joiners have had over 70 training sectors. Not ideal I agree but the company doesn't want to fail you.
Don't bet on it. Current thinking is that 40+ sectors is a ridiculous amount, and it should be 30. And yes, they will give very serious consideration to failing those who require anything extra.
I'll let you make up your own minds of the wisdom of that course of action.
