Up until the beginning of this year I was also in a similar position when I worked for a company where the base performance manager had no flying experience! Moral at the base was very low as she had no idea about anything relating to the aviation industry or management etc. This manager was allowed to go out on flights and line check all cabin crew at the base which included main crew, seniors and a trainer who was based at the base as well. My main concern was that despite a good number of us loosing our positions at the base due to an aircraft being withdrawen from the base she still came on and carried out appraisals on us despite us finishing up in a few weeks time. It was very obvious that she was out of her depth whilst onboard. Other concerns related to her management skills within the base and she could not answer a simple question when asked. Another issue was that she made false promises with regards to job security and then denied that they were ever made. This list goes on and on. I am luck to have left this company and secured a position flying for an ever expanding company out of GLA.

Out of interest what are other people's views about having a manager in charge and conducting appraisals and line checks on crews when she has no flying experience and also no management experience?

I am sure that the CAA would have someting to say with regards to this, anyone with any ideas/thoughts?
