That may be spot on, but equally a lot of medium and long haul aircraft seats can power laptops (e.g. BA WT+, C, F) and others have charging stations in economy.

So the main concern, at least from my perspective, is an in flight fire.
If you look at the instructions for in-seat power, e.g. in the in-flight magazines, or on the packaging that comes with any of the adaptors that plug into the airline seats, it generally says to remove the battery from your laptop when using airline power.
