PF, go back about a month in the archives and read the thread called MAUN. Lots of good info there. Bottom line: There are jobs in Maun, Botswana BUT you've gotta go there and talk to the chief pilots of the various charter operators to get the job. No phone calls, no emails just face-to-face. If they like you you're in. They take in guys with as little as 250 hours to be F/Os. Improve your marketability by getting yourself type rated on the Cessna Caravan before going over, as most of the charters use Caravans.

The living costs are about $500us/month...lots of budget travel accomodations. Lots of Ozzies and Kiwis in Maun.

It will take about 3 months to process the legit work visa for you - employer takes care of that for you. Licensure conversion and medical too...no problems there apparently.

The pay allows you to cover rent, food and beer. You make about $500us/month.

I haven't gone but I'm thinking of it. I'm going to wait and see if things improve in my neck of the woods(North American) before I book my flight.

For further info try and contact Kavac-7 and Kiwiflyer. K7 is in Gabarone, Botswana and Kiwi is in Maun. Hope this helps.

PS . .Very important bit of info to be committed to long term memory: Do not tell the customs agents in Botswana that you are looking for work as a pilot. Tell them you are there as a tourist to see the sights of their lovely country. To do otherwise could result in trouble. If they search your bags and find your log book tell them you're planning on renting a plane to see the countryside from an aerial perspective.
