wonder how this gem can possibly save any cash at all....
Well if it can stop any of the following:
having an A319 crewed by 2 CSDs, 3 Pursers and one main crew for a 40 minute flight.......
having aforementioned crew sitting around in the CAT lounge all day because the delay inbound means they won't do the middle 2 sectors then going home at the end of the day.......
positioning whole crews from LHR to MAN, bumping off commercial pax, so that the LHR crew can cover the flights the MAN crew won't do......
positioning LHR crew to MAN to sit on standby up there to cover staff shortages....
...then BA will be on the way to saving money. MAN only makes sense as a base for as long as it's cheaper to run than the cost of nightstopping LHR crews there. With the number of old contract, senior grade crew up there, plus their lack of productivity and legendary militancy when it comes to their working agreements it's unlikely they can do the job for less than the cost of nightstopping an LHR crew there on a split duty.
