I'm no doc but from seeing a certain Friends episode and having a hernia before I can only recommend you get it operated on. It will only get more painful and will probably not mend itself. With an operation at least you can be sure it's sorted.
I don't have a Class 1 myself yet I never would of imagined it will jepodise my chances of obtaining one. Thus it may be problematic to you if you don't have it mended.
Your doc may too recommend an operation.
Go with your docs advice.
