I can vouch for this. I was born and raised in Dallas. Sadly, it is true what you say.
I did spend some time having my "pilotini" listen to Texan ATC. I am working on getting some live traffic from the AFB to help them prepare. I also taught them American English from the DoD's
American Language Course books.
