If ATCOs occasionally get problems behind 757s, wouldn't best practice be to ask aircraft behind them who
you think
might need increased separation whether they require it or not before line up ?? And to discuss such with your colleagues and peers so it becomes a SOP.
Use your knowledge, training, initiative, and a bit of common sense
and all will be well in the world.
