My understanding of the JAL LHR base (garnered from conversations had with LHR JAL crew at the Truck in NRT - so forgive me if my memory of such information is less than perfect
) is that they can operate from a few different European ports to Japan, sometimes from Japan onto a further destination, and then back again. I believe they are deadheaded to whichever European destination they are to start their trip from.
