The 752 should be the perfect a/c for the route, with ideal airfield performance and no ops issues. What type do you suggest gatwicknose? Also, on what grounds do you qualify your statement that the route will not last. At least now there is an alternative for those in the northwest who do not wish to travel via MAN or struggle to get to LHR.
