need help-retirement age,mandatory or not

Hy
We are in a process of changing some legislation concerning flight crew in my country (the old one was done ages ago, under commies laws...)
How is the process of retirement working on your area? Is there an age when you can retire at request (for ex 55 yrs ) and a mandatory retirement age (for ex 60 yrs) ?
What will happen to a pilot if becomes unfit for flying before the mandatory age? Full pension, medical one,or...? You'll have to do a 'ground' job untill reaching the retirement mandatory age? Or you become a 'civilian', and retire at a higher age (for ex 65 ) ?
Is there a 'catalog' or law ,with all jobs, which details our profession, setting it on some kind of ladder, considering aspects like risk,complexity,etc....?
All answers will help me a lot, cause we have to talk to some political guys, giving them examples or references of how it's done in other places, especially in UE ..
Thks Alex
