Have trained many older pilots and have never come across this phenomenon. By the way lots of guys get through without anything like a CPL and the accompanying debt. The only common thread for success is the desire to succeed no matter what obstacle may get in your way. A little brains and a lot of gut effort can still go a long way in this world. Lots of guys in AAAVN fly SPIFR in anger, sometimes even in fun, they are called QFI's.
