Well actually, based on my experience of doing dozens of courses over about 20 years, about 5% enter even one competition, despite considerable encouragement from me.
In an effort to lower the barrier to entry a bit more, I understand that LOOP are organising a fly-in at Compton Abbas on 30th June that is to incorporate a Beginner's-only competition, together with coaching and critiquing. See
