I don't like the terminology "kick off drift" and prefer "straighten the aircraft (with the runway)" with a thoughtful application of rudder.
That's why I'm not a trainer
, just a line captain who applies the technique you mention, but doesn't perhaps explain it as well as it could have been explained!
