That irritates me so much!
I am the Chairman of a classic car club and insist on being called Chairman. If any refers to me as or addresses me as Chairwoman, Chairperson or, for
-sake "Chair" (what am I, a piece of fine Chippendale?), they get ignored or censured, depending on my mood.
The derivation of Chairman, Airman, Spokesman etc is "mankind" and "human" and nothing to do with gender.
