With your time mate it would be the A320 or B737 to start. I think it would be 3-5 years until you could get the 777/747. Commuting from the US as a short haul pilot would be tricky I would think. There are BA pilots who live all over the world so anything is possible. Get the job first (easier said than done) and then worry about the living arrangements.
