Why does a helicopter pilot sit on the right?

Hi all. Now I'm sure this has been discussed before but can't seem to find it in the 'Search'.

So why do heli pilots sit on the right and fixed wing sit on the left? Is it because a heli pilot is helping balance out tail rotor roll and a fixed wing to counter torque effect from his propeller?

I know there are A/C where the pilot sits on the left, but just in general.
