Hello! Congratulations on getting a job with BMed. Have heard of recruitment days where only 1 or 2 candidates were successful over a group of 20 or so.
'Virgin cc wannabe' is not actually wrong about getting a bigger picture of what you are going to get into.....
The assessment day you attended has most certainly illustrated the world of BMed in detail and will have given candidates the opportunity to ASK.
You've certainly been made aware of BMed destinations and cultures you will fly to. They are pretty unusual if you've never flown before, never been in contact with these cultures or have just flown Malaga there and back.
Trips at BMed vary. You may be away for 2 days or up to 7, hence a long time spent away from the comfort of your own bed. 10 days off a month is the minimum agreed with the Union (Cabin Crew 89). You normally don't get many stand-by's (all from home), but operations are quite good at letting crew know well in advance, unless it is a last minute thing.
I am not aware of the current starting salary for new entrant main crew. You should have been told this at the assessment day. I suppose you can look at taking home something between 12 and 14 hundred, provided you are not off sick, on leave, ground training, recurrent courses, etc. Sometimes less, sometimes more, depending also on the duration of the trips you will get within the roster period.
Always keep in mind that once airborne, it can be hard work, not only physically. You will get at your destination in the middle of the night, you'll have to wake up in the middle of the night or at crack of dawn, but when you are off downroute, you can enjoy a drink by the pool or get familiar with the peculiar and interesting cultures of the countries BMed flies to... places sometimes unheard of and definitely somewhere you would not think of as a holiday destination!!
As for travel concessions, they pretty much match the ones of BA mainline staff and you will be eligible for concessions after successful completion of your probationary period, plus your annual entitlement to 'free' tickets (you only pay taxes), the number of which depends on your length of service (You can take anyone on your free ticket to any BMed destination, provided you are operating crew on the flight).
BMed has a very knowledgeable staff travel dept. and if you have any more questions, just call them up. Sure they will help you.
