Most early-early engines had a "manual reversion" mode in which the governor, accel/decel schedules etc. could all be overridden. It took a very steady hand though, or else you would either cook a turbine or flame out.
That's what the Meridian has, but I was told not only not to touch that lever, but not to even look at it.
