There are a few reasons
1 Easter is very late this year
2 the charter market is a dieing breed as has had the same effect at most airport throughout the UK
3 The UK market is not as boyant as it has been
4 BA Regional/Connect dropping 8 routes
Re new services and loosing others
Malasian has gone due nothing to do with Manchester but it`s own problems
Cathay is due problems beyond Manchester`s control

Jet Airways (9W) of India is looking at Manchester and Birmingham for 2007. Their chairman Naresh Goyal gave an interview to The Times in which he told of plan to operate to the UK regions:
Goyal, for his part, is working to introduce the first flights to India from regional airports in Britain after the Indian Government this month cleared his proposed $500 million (£285 million) takeover of the rival Air Sahara to create the country’s biggest airline by far. In what would mark the beginning of a new generation of provincial flights to India, Goyal plans to begin services from Manchester and Birmingham next year.

Jet is trying to consolidate its position at LHR for the moment. LHR-Mumbai goes double daily in July and LHR-Amritsar begins in August with the arrival of their A332s.
