qantas announces futher restructuring

Qantas Airways Ltd says further restructuring will be necessary as world oil prices continue to rise.

Qantas chief executive Geoff Dixon said the price of oil would stay very high for a very long time, and the company no longer thought oil prices would stay at $US60 a barrel.

"We do not believe oil prices will recede in any major way in the next two to three years," Mr Dixon said.

"We believe it (the oil price) will be higher than that ($US60) and the business will have to be run ... at a much higher oil price, which will mean further and quite substantial restructuring of Qantas."

He said the company was making changes, which would be announced in the next two to three months.

Qantas said it would scrap the Australian Airlines brand in favour of building the international services of low cost domestic carrier Jetstar, which is gearing up to fly international routes later this year.

"Part of that major restructuring is the starting of Jetstar as an international operation," Mr Dixon said.
how long more do we have to put up with this constant pressure to change what we do and do well i might add
i hope their will be more consulation than the heavy maintenance restructure.
