Went to Hong Kong the other day and was pleased that the Virgin crew took pity on my crappy allowances and bought me a beer. At LHR we get £55 a night which is not going to do very much for you in London. At other airlines, decent allowances are seen as a perk by the crew, that just isn't the case at EK but I guess we knew that when we joined.
Surely the salary (for any job that requres being away from home) should be where that is evaluated?
The allowances at EK just cover food and about the only time I have ever bought any money back is when I have been to Nairobi or Colombo. (I haven't been reduced to the pot noodles and kettle washing yet.) Most other companies that send their employees abroad to work compensate them more favourably for the trip.
