Raised rivets in certain areas is quite old-science: I recall during my Tech Training days at RAF Halton (Late 1970’s) that air-speed and handling improved with a mixture of both Flush and Mush rivets in certain locations. This could have been on the Spitfire, but not having worked on them I can’t confirm, and just starting another bottle of Speckled Hen could be ballix.
