I think that it depends on how badly you want to be a pilot. A postgrad degree might help you get another interview, but if it doesn't work out, you're still better off. On the other hand, if you got yourself a CPL/IR, you'd have pretty much committed yourself to a career as a pilot. A long road which would probably take much longer than an ab-initio in SIA, but would likely fulfill your dream of flying for a major airline.
