Having lived in the area for many years, but not now, I can assure you that it is one the less inspiring places you will find in the UK.

Hull tries to be cosmopolitan, with it's Marina area and semi trendy nightlife, but in reallity its a large, ugly city, with nothing going for it.
Grimsby and Cleethorpes aren't much better, both towns are in recession, with Cleethorpes having most of the nightlife, but in reality, very little to offer. Scunthorpe? nowt more to say!!
Unfortunately, the area is very slow to catch up with the rest of the UK because it is so economically depressed.

What the area does offer, out of the towns, is a lot of very good pubs and lots of open countryside with nice villages and isolation if that's what you want.
Personally, I'd never buy a house there, or ever move back.

As they say, make of it what you will.
