I have just had a look at that thread and some people have a very valid point about how dangerous LOTS of places are in the world. In little old Brissie there is lots of drink spiking etc. The moral of the story is to try to be as careful as possible and really make sure you have mates with you or a phone with you all the time.
I am concerned about the traffic situation in Dubai as I have been there before and cars are CRAZY. Again though, all you can do is live as carefully as possible and try to respect others.
It's a big decision to move to the other side of the world away from your family and I'm sure any of us willing to do that are well aware of the inherant risks of living in a country where we are guests.
