I am soon to retire! I am almost 65 and am happily still flying as a TRI/TRE for a major European operator all over Europe.
At the moment I am not allowed to fly in French airspace. I have had this restriction applied since I became 60 and I cannot begin to tell you how awful it is to be banned from flying in French airspace and also how absolutely devastating it is to be banned from CDG in particular.
I have never been happier in my flying career.
Apart from that I have had virtually no other problems.
The European rules on ageism come into effect on 31 October 2006. These rules were agreed by the member countries 6 years ago. They have had 3 years to discuss the rules and have now had (almost) the 3 years to implement the rules.
As of 01 November 2006 it will be illegal to specify a retirement age unless there is an over-riding piece of legislation.
In our case this piece of legislation is JARs (soon to become EASAs) which states that you have to quit at 65.
Have fun; just like I do!
