Taxes on Emissions
Have just watched an article on breakfasts news (BBC) with two sides of the arguement being given, one by Tim Jeans from Monarch, defending the rise in air travel and how the low cost revolution has allowed the masses rather than just the rich to travel. Also the £11 billon that aviation and associated industry provides to the UK economy.
The Greens were suggesting a tax of about 4 pence per KM £36 for a GLA/LGW return on top of all the other taxes, that would end up in he Goverments coffers. Whould this be used solely to improve the enviroment ??
I think not.
Aviation knows it has to be efficent especially with the price of oil, the Goverment needs to encourage investment in newer cleaner engine technology and get the airlines to invest in this rather than use them to collect taxes from the traveller.
