Be sensible
If self-loading cargo ( ie pax ) stopped putting valuables in suitcases then pilfering would cease.
I have used a dirty ( on the outside ) old khaki canvas bag for years , no padlock , to transport my clothes and shoes etc all over the world. I get some weird looks on occasion , but I never lose anything - nothing to fret about -its all replaceable anyway.All my valuables go in my cabin baggage.
