I think American elected to fly the flight to chicago with a stop in new york...the trip would then be less than 8 hours and they could operate with 2 pilots. Yep, they stopped in JFK and got a new crew (2), and DH'd to ORD. They were about 3+15 late in ORD. They beat the snowstorm on the East Coast.
