Well I must say, its a shocker,
If MYT sees companies operating with flight crew paying to type rate and at the companies own choice of training provider, AND then paying for line training; Then WHY wouldnt they ask pilots to cough up bags of cash ?
MYT ASK and the more pilots that pay, the quicker it becomes the accpeted (by the employers) norm. ONLY if the supply of these people dries up, will they then be faced with the prospect of paying and bonding for type ratings.
I cant imagine BALPA stepping in , why ? The training provider is offering the type rating to a measured standard, and the pilot is paying. So no case to answer, no reason for them to get involved.
But as others have pointed out, it isnt possible for everyone to pay for the type rating, and then what ?
Yes it would be nice to have an employer out there willing to meet you half way, and YES they do Flybe, BA Connect, Loganir do. So its not all over yet folks !
